  • RIDGID Sketch App

Anyone using the RIDGID Sketch app for Android?

I have it on my phone and aalso the tablet and find it useful except for one thing. On the tablet it only runs in portrait more and will not roll over to landscape orientation. I've checked the settings in my tablet aand I find nothing there that would prevent it from entering landscape mode, and I have no problem with other apps that recognize the orientation of the device.

Another thing which does not work is with the current version I can not enter a measurement manually which I could do before. the help screen in the app says you should be able to enter a measurement manually but it does not work for me.

Question to the RIDGID app developers did you anticipate people using their phones or tablets in landscape and include that functionality in the app and if not would you please do so in the next rev?

We did not include landscape into the app yet. It requires a bit more development to make this work in landscape than other apps because of the dynamic nature of the drawing features. We will work on including that in a future release. I can tell you that it wont be in the next release because that is launching next week! It will have some other sought after features like organizing work in sketchbooks, handling any angles, and additional language support. Hopefully, you find those useful!

As far as entering a measurement manually goes, that should still work. I just tested on my Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nexus 7 tablet. My team would need to know more about your device and version of Android to see if they could reproduce the issue.

On my Galaxy Note 3 running Android version 4.4.4 I have Ridgid Sketch version 1.1, the app works pretty good on here and having the stylus is nice for manipulating the lines (dragging and selecting for instance) but I find that when I go back to tweak the end of a line by selecting and holding the arrow head that 'Delete Line' always pops up and when you click elsewhere to make it go away then you have lost focus on the line you want to edit/move. Can you get rid of that pop up and just have a button at the bottom of the screen to delete the line and don't make it the default when a line is selected. I've also noticed that measurements over 12 inches must be entered in feet and inches, I suppose to be compatible with the LM-400. So if I want to work in all inches I can't, and what about metric dimensioning, can you include the capability for the user to select metric or imperial?

I'll have to check the version installed on my Motorola XOOM tablet, not sure which version of Android I have on there or which version of Ridgid Sketch but probably 1.1 .

I have just started using Sketch, seems that for iPad it only works in portrait as well. I like the app, just getting used to it.

              HI!

First of all, I would like to congrats for newer version of Ridgit Skethc. It is very usefull (handling angles, sketchbook,...). I use it very often, becasue I work as a interior designer. Now some feedback:
              1. when I directly share photo sketch, let say to Dropbox, this photo is useless (see att). So I have to first save it to galery on my phone, than to Dropbox and my computer. The same happens if I select entire sketchbook and share it to Dropbox.
              2. floorplan: if I share measured floorplan to e-mail or similar, doesn't show all measurement (see att). Instead of that, I have them in excel file, but I can't help a lot whith it.
              3. It would be very very usefull if you put all other data (perimeter, floor area, height, wall area, volume) to share together with sketchbook or with floorplan (maybe as .csv file) and so have it on computer.

              Thank you for your answer.

              All the best,

              Klemen

                Hi Klemen,

I work as the development manager for Sketch application. I want to thank you for the provided feedback, really helps to make Sketch a better app. We have prepared a new version that is ready for download in Google Play (will also be available in App Store soon). It contains fixes for all the issues you mentioned. Please let us know your feedback or any other ideas of improvement you have.

                Thanks,
                Lucian

Got the update to my Note 3 today, but haven't tried it out yet. Maybe this weekend I'll get some time to give it a whirl.

But in just a few minutes, I see that there is no way to exit a sketch without it being saved. In other words I can't navigate away from the sketch without saving to be able to get back to where I started. There is an undo button, but how many undos are cached?

Using the stylus on my Note 3, which I realize most smartphones won't have is nice but editing a wall length is difficult even on the Note 3 with the stylus. I bet using your finger would be even tougher. Need to change the way the dimension values are entered. If there is an existing wall and I go to edit it, it would be nice to have a CLEAR button so I could delete any entry for that wall segment. This might be the fastest way to revise a dimension. Also, apparently the app can't do fractions or decmials. You can't enter 1-1/2" or 1.5", why. The world is not rounded off to even inches. Need the precision down to 1/8" at least. No fractions and all decimal inches would be fine with me, I just need to be able to enter 8'-6-3/8".

Bob, we are currently working on a way to manually input inch fractions, this will be available in the next version which should get to the app store soon. In the current version fractions are available only for the walls measured with the LM-400 in the shared email.

Sketches are saved automatically to protect against accidental loss of data, all the undo operations are cached so you can get to the initial form of the sketch. This is a safer approach to handle data saving on mobile.

Regarding the clear button, if you open a wall to edit its dimension, once you start typing the new measurement it automatically replaces the old value with the new one. Let us know if you encounter any issues with this approach.

                    Thanks,
                    Lucian

Thanks for the reply and information. I look forward to the next update. I realize you
can't be cranking those out every week and it might be a while, that's OK.
