  • hyperion sewage treatment plant city of los angeles

today i had an opportunity to do a camera inspection at the largest sewage treatment plant for the city of los angeles. it's been 28 years since i visited this plant as an apprentice.

got to talk with the city senior consultant and picked his brain

this plant has primary and secondary treatment. an average day is 340 million gallons of inflow treatment. with a peak of 850 million gallons on wet days when ground water infiltrates the system.

this plant serves roughly 4 million customers through 6500 miles of collection piping, ranging from 8'' to 144'' pipe

josh, i need a bigger camera

    read all about it here

That must have been a fun trip. I got to visit a WWTP a couple years back, just for a tour, but it was very interesting. This one only served about 250k people, but that's still pretty hard to wrap your mind around.

I can't imagine a facility serving 4m people. Thanks for the link.
