  • Call the Plumber, the gate is not working

Saw the craziest gate opener today. It's a water powered hydraulic cylinder.

Uses a 3way valve with a dump feature. Very cool, yet very illegal. Uses house pressure, no pump.

Does Ryobi make that? How is it operated?

The house water pressure is reversed by a set of 3 way electric valves to either open or close. this was made 25 years ago and is still working pretty good. slight leak at the piston packing and the dump line is broken under the house where the controls are. uses a wireless remote just like a modern day opener. displaces about 1 qt. of water per cycle. not bad for watering the plants.

Got to give the inventor credit. except for the fact that i don't believe there is a working backflow preventer installed.

Pretty slick, wouldn't be that hard to make it compliant, great post

Interesting design. Does the person who developed this live in the house? Was this designed just as a novel item or a real need to use something other than electricity?

The fence contractors friend designed these openers.

      Great warm weather gadget.

I can see how great that would be in NY. In winter time it would be a permanent locking mechanism.
