  • What would you do?

this is just a general question.

the guy your working with has just received a serious injury. he's unconcious, broken, and bleeding.

he may have fallen off a ladder, scafflold, or roof.

maybe a trip and fall. or a machine mishap.

what would be your first reaction to the situation.

    Vince

i have my own teachings. just wondering how you would handle it.

maybe you have a story/lesson to tell/teach (try and say that ten times real fast).

    Re: What would you do?

have some one call 911 for help
    check for breathing
    try to stop bleeding
do not move them unless it is a mater of life or death
    treat for shock
    try to make them calm
    wait for medic's

tell them they are an a$$ for doing this and the boss will be maaaaaad
    just kidding

      Vince did something happen?
First fire extinguishers and first aid kits... now emergency response.

Good thing there is lots of ice up there.

first thing is to make sure the area is safe for you to enter, if you just jump in, you could be the next victim.

and then go with HVAC HAWKS list

many people have been killed by jumping into confined spaces to rescue their buddy and someone else finds both of them dead.

Be careful and keep your eyes and ears open.

I would normally make the call myself if at all possible.

Assess the area, Assess the situation, Assess the victim

If I even THINK that it might be a fall accident, brace head and neck if they are still breathing. If they aren’t breathing, then CPR. You can still talk to them and try to reassure them with their head and neck braced while waiting for help to arrive. I would get in and help. I've been trained. Most times in severe accidents, the first few minutes count the most. If you haven't been trained you might want to consider a Class 1 First Aid Course. It's about 6-8 hours and gives you basic and very usable first-aid training.

              Easy,

two years as rankin's fire chief.

about two years as the union of northern workers safety officer.

yes something did happen, i became a father.

i want to start a community safety group here. still working on that.

Fatherhood that's a good reason to get home safely after work.

Great thing fatherhood, it does make you think more about job safety.
