  • Give Them A Bill

I'm watching the Senate hearing on progress in Iraq and I can't believe that Iraq has a surplus of money while we are dealing with a deficit. Our government and not the Iraqi government is paying 100,000 Iraqi workers a salary and they have threatened that if they are not paid in a timely manner they will return to fighting American Troops. What dam nerve, biting the hand that feeds them. I understand that a quick withdrawal would destabilize the area and we don't want that but why not "Hand Them A Bill" for money spent and services rendered to make their country safer and free? The trillion dollars we spent in Iraq would sure have helped right here.

Why not just go to random houses in a neighborhood, and attempt to fix some plumbing un-invited?.....Then demand payment after the basements start flooding.....sure sounds like a good buisness plan.

Thats an excellent idea....we should get some of that money back in oil or something, isn't that what this was all about?? oil and money??

Of course we started the whole thing.....does that still qualify us for a share?

I agree, we need to take what we have been fighting for to improve our economy.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Our government started the whole thing agreed, but we the people have lost over 4,000 brave American lives and spent close to a trillion dollars. If the government and / or people of Iraq don't want to pay for this effort, why should we? I listened to a lot of the hearing and I got the impression that the iraqi army was not going to step up as long as we were taking charge. They said out of 110 mission only 10 were lead by the iraqis. We are spoon feeding them and they are happy to sit in the high chair. I understand the focus of the hearing was progress in Iraq, but what about the progress or lack of it right here in the good old USA? The iraqi government could probably give us a break on oil and drastically lower our price at the pumps, this would help the truckers and have a heathly ripple effect for the rest of our economy. I didn't hear any of those big shots say "yeah, we are gonna push for a break on oil". Last year we spent 27 billion on their infrastructure and they kicked in 4 billion, what the hell kind of math is that?

When the man who chooses the cabinet with the single most influence on all aspects of our government, from politics, finance, economy, world trade, military and many more can't even pronounce the word "nuclear" correctly...I worry.

              George....it's not pronounced "Nucular".

I don't buy his stupid act, I think both he and the vice president are both pure evil. He's denied stem cell research which could end the suffering of thousands. He has ignored alternative energies in favor of hydrogen fuel cells which he is heavily invested in but which hold no real promise for the future. He could care less about what we pay for gasoline and heating oil. One trillion of our dollars spent in iraq while our economy is in the toilet ( for you Plumbers). I won't give him a pass by believing he is stupid, someday God will decide.

                  Here's one thing I can't quite grasp....

Bill Clinton, who I thought was a decent president, aside from NAFTA,he did okay...He nearly gets Impeached for a little sex in the whitehouse.

Yet this current adminstration, who's intentionally mislead everyone into going to war.Made a mockery of the Bill of Rights,i.e. illegal wiretaps ,indefinate detention without need for show of cause, makes public names of covert agents for political gain,I could go on......How the hell does he still have a job?

The president does not need to explain to joe jones why abdul is getting shock treatment. What does it matter to joe? He only cares that his family won't be blown up on that plane. The american public wants freedom but not the sacrifices that go with it. If you have nothing to hide, why does a wiretap bother you? The FBI and CIA are not recording mr. jones talking to his mistress while his wife is at work. The government is concerned about catching terrorists. Our determination in Iraq is showing countries like China and North Korea (nuclear powers) that if you fight with America, be prepared for the long haul. Iraq war is nothing if we go at with China.

President Kennedy said "Don't ask what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". I think americans have lost sight of that. Every soldier that has died during this operation was a volunteer. The soldier's first mission is to fight. If any soldier doesn't realize that, he/she needs a new line of work. Keep the amount of human losses in perspective. Roughly 4000 soldiers have died for our country in 6 years of fighting. In 2006, according to the national highway safety institute, 13,470 people died on america's roadways due to alcohol in one year. If human life is so fragile, why aren't people in the streets protesting alcohol?

Because americans are selfish. If americans really knew what war is like, they would shut up and not worry about torture techniques or illegal wiretaps. War is not some glorified noble experience they show in movies. The good guy does not always win. People die. Do what it takes to win the war. for those who protest President Bush, take comfort in your ignorance. It must be nice.

                      Re: Give Them A Bill

The main thing that upsets me is that we went to war with the Middle East due to Weapons of Mass Destruction. Years later, none were ever found and too many young lives were lost. This war is a waste to me. We should of just went after so many top leaders and stopped at that.

I once heard a story talking about a fist fight. It was a 1 on 5 fight, or something of the sort. The guy fighting by himself, went after the biggest and baddest of the other 5. Once he beat him up, the rest got scared and ran away, I feel this way about the war. It just seems like a up hill battle, just endless.

I'm sure I'm wrong though since these are views of a 17 year old.

Not all people who protest President Bush are ignorant and not all people who are against this war are against the brave men and women who are fighting, getting wounded and dying. People are pissed that in an effort to protect our rights and freedoms we are losing some. We are allowing the iranians to train, support and send terrorists into iraq to kill US troops, WHY? Those of us who are old enough to remember Vietnam are reminded of the similarities, American troops were killed gaining ground only to give it back. American troops died because military leaders had their hands tied by washington. Those of us with families who are struggling in this economy don't want to hear how well the iraqi government is doing while we are facing recession or worse. I just wrote a letter to my congressman asking him to stop worrying about what will happen to iraq and the middle east and save the USA while there is still something to save. These oil companies are going to ruin our country if we don't get some relief soon. I'm all for growing democracy and saving other people from suffering but it has got to start at home. You called Americans selfish, well throw in lazy and stupid, but WE are the selfish, lazy, stupid people who are buying the worlds products and we are going broke! Those of us who lost our jobs to illegals who would work for spit were not lazy and those of us whose jobs moved to third world countries were not lazy! Don't tell me as President Bush did that I am addicted to foreign oil when you allowed 10 mile per gallon SUV's to be sold in my country. Give me alternatives NOW or else I'll cut back on my driving and spending and the economy will get worse. Don't give me a stimulus refund that won't even cover the rise in gasoline! China does not have to go to war with us to defeat us, all they have to do is stop deliveries. We are a dying society that makes nothing and needs it's enemies. Now that's ignorant!

Choose what you want-living without the fear that your grocery store or will get blown up or some muslim that you don't know gets his house wiretapped? Can't have both. We are allowing the iranians to train, support and send terrorists into iraq to kill US troops, WHY? Because Iran has nuclear weapons and until we can prove a direct link to the Iranian government with terrorists then we can't visibly do anything about it. Capitalism-why does the President have to decide what gets sold? What you're talking about borders on communism. Give me alternatives NOW or else I'll cut back on my driving and spending and the economy will get worse. Here's an alternative, buy a 4 cylinder car that gets 30 mpg if you don't need a truck. Turn off the lights in the rooms that aren't being used. Turn off the AC, open a window. The list could go on. We want to cry about high fuel cost but do little as a whole to conserve energy. Saying this in general, not directed at you in particular. This is Don't give me a stimulus refund that won't even cover the rise in gasoline! China does not have to go to war with us to defeat us, all they have to do is stop deliveries. We are a dying society that makes nothing and needs it's enemies. Now that's ignorant!
Americans allowed China to become an econmic superpower when they decided that higher quality american made goods were to expensive and bought cheap, chinese crap. The pendalum will swing back the other way and Americans will wake up.

You suggest buying a four cylinder car as if I was buying a box of twinkies, not everyone has that luxury and those folks who need their work vehicles have no choice. Try trading in a gas guzzler and see how much you get for it and that's if the dealer will even take it. The car lots are loaded up, more and more folks out of work who can't pay for the car loans they have. The Truckers have no choice and they are hurting. This is affecting more than gasoline, those of us who food shop have seen prices double on many items and I suppose we should stop eating? Americans did not want our jobs to move to china, india, mexico, vietnam and other countires, those decisions were made by big business. The quality of our goods has declined and we are still paying high prices. You may think I'm dooming and glooming but there is no time for the pendulum to swing on it's own. Our government has got to get off it's *** and get it's mind right, the problem that needs the most attention right now is right here at home. Our legislative leaders knew we were dependent on foreign oil and big oil but they did nothing to prepare us. They could have passed some guidelines on miles per gallon years ago. They could have passed laws governing new construction insulation requirements. Incentives for solar, wind and other alternative energies and these measures can still be implimented but are not. If you were faced with multiple system failures wouldn't you attend to the most serious first? The most serious is right here at home and I'm sure of that.

I love the "blame the government" crowd....

Heres a little snip I have on all this.

You and I are the only ones to blame for the falling dollar and the national debt. Credit Cards, home morgages, car loans, anything you and I put on credit causes the national debt to rise. The federal reserve is who doles out the money to the banks, not Bushy. Greenspan was suppose to be some genious... hes a moron. He should have curbed this while he was still in the seat, but he didnt. They let the interest rates sit too low for too long. Then, when they hiked them, as the market got flooded with too many homes and not enough buyers, it was to late, and only made the crunch worse. This in turn has effected the cost of oil, as oil is traded on the value of the US dollar on the world market. Since we are "printing money" like its going out of style, we are only shooting ourselves in the foot. The future traders still see the US dollar not making a turn around in 9 months, and continue to price a barrel accordingly. The day that oil starts dropping below 65-70 bucks a barrel, will be the sign that finally, we are starting to accomplish some gorund on fighting our debt addiction... but its going to take a while. Bailing out home owners is only going to make things worse. Let the cookie crumble, it will feed the rest of the economy if you let it happen.

The war.... ARGH, please, I wish people would get over this "Bush lied"! HELLO PEOPLE, he didnt jump on the satellite himself and take pictures over the past 12 years, the cameras on the satellites did, and they were run by so called military specialists. Not only was it US intelligence, but foriegn as well. If anything, it should be "Bush was lied to"! Do I agree with the War... to be honest, I am still hung on the whole thing. Some day, it will probably all make sense, but I am not one to pass judgement, as I am not a military specialist.

OIL prices... see my above post.
