  • The Disposal Backup

Well I got home to my kitchen sinks full of murky water with food chunks in it. We had had the disposal back up before but this one was stuborn.

Started by using a plunger. Wouldnt budge. So I took the plug out of the P-trap and sent my trusty quick spin in there to see what it could snag. After about 10 minutes I gave up.

So the final solution was to take apart the pipe were it entered the soil pipe. I loosened up the sleeve and tried holding a bucket under it. Was a bit tough to slide off and by the time I slide the rubber sleeve off I had loosened up the joint that went verticle to the kitchen drain. So I got 4 gallons of nasty water falling down all over my tool shelves and onto the floor. Not happy at this point.

So I spend 30 minutes cleaning up the mess and drying my tools off. Luckily I had some solvent cementer so I glued the joint back and put the sleeve back on.

Turns out the blockage was a whole bunch of ednamame pods I sent down the disposal last night along with everything Helen sent down today. Bigtime fun.

Anyways.. though I would share my adventure. I like to pretend I am a plumber sometimes.

Looks like the drain diameter reduces downstream, thats a big code no-no as it will cause stoppage problems.

I dont have a micro at home... only when I intentionally take one home for a job. Plus it wouldnt have made it through the p-trap. I woulda been able to clear the blockage if I had a k-39. Had to do it the old fashion way though.
