It had the 302 aluminum small block @ 350bhp. Chevy only put a few of these out to satisfy nascar at the time.

1977 chevelle malibu station wagon. It was the family car and was in the family longer than I was(born in 78). The mothership was huge. I remember I did my first brake job and was going down a country road when both back tires fell since I thought tightning lug nuts was optional. I walked about a mile picking up all the parts and put it back together right there until about 11pm. Like Dunbar, I had a great time fogging up the windows. Vinyl seats-easy cleanup. You could take the key out and the mothership would still run. My dad gave it away when I joined the navy. I think I saw it in Gulfport, MS during Cruising The Coast(car show). Someone turned it into a race car, cut out the hood, huge blower, vertical headers. I didn't think I missed that car but as I'm writing this I really have some good memories going around in my head.

It would have been SCCA, the Camaro was never large enough for the NASCAR minimum wheelbase.

That had to be a COPA car to have a Pontiac motor in it.

The ZL1 was produced in 1969, they made less than 800 of them, with an aluminum 350 with aluminum fuelly heads and factory installed pink rods, factory stock it ran in the mid 13's in the quarter mile. The first one was delivered in downstate Illinois and was never registered as sold.

First time I have ever heard that, and I have no clue if it actually displaces 302 CI. The 302 was an actual Pontiac production engine for many years, Chevy marketed the Camaro to the quarter mile crowd for the most part, while Pontiac went after the road racing crowd to compete with the Mustang and the imports, the name Firebird was intended to appeal to the import car enthusiasts, and for awhile 300 CI (roughly) was the max for an SCCA car.

Well, most of you have cars way older than me! My first car was an "89 Acura Legend. I had it 19 years and I loved every minute! I finally broke down and got rid of it when the a/c went out last Summer. A friend of the family bought it and fixed it for his secretary to drive to/from work.

$150 from a guy we were installing AC unit for. He took a dump
on it in the rain and refused to get back on) 1977

1978 LTD Landau w/351W 1978 (my first brand new car) 1978

1980 Low Rider w/80 CI motor (last year for a kicker on a Harley) 1980

(put 120K on this then sold it to my brother who drove
                  it another 30K)

                  1985 Bronco w/351 HO motor 1985

1996 Impala SS 1996 (Really miss this one. I shudda hung on to it)

                  1992 Bronco w/302 1998

                  1995 Hummer H1 1998

I might have missed one or two along the way, but I think that's most of them.

Oh, the car I first learned to drive in was a 49 Fiat. A tiny car that
looked like a scaled down VW bug. Had a 2 cylinder motor and 12" wheels
which looked very similar to this one but had a retractable canvas top.

Holy smokes Bob, if you bought a toyota to begin with, you could've cut that list in half.

I had a gray 1992 Ford Taurus which I learned how to drive on, which was my mothers (and really on paper was only hears). About 3 months after i started driving the wagon regularly, she got into an accident with her 1998 Escort with only 26K miles on it and went out and got an Explorer because she liked that it was bigger. This was the first car I ever owned on paper; and really what I consider my first car. I drove it until it died 1.5 years ago, and my wife and I got a 2007 Mazda3 hatchback. This was the first car that I got to pick out myself (of course my wife also had input). I drove a 1997 Senta which was my FIL's after my Escort died and my wife drove the Mazda. I hated that car, because my Escort had much better power and handling. I loved driving the Mazda until about 3 weeks ago, when I got an '08 Accord EX V6 to drive to work (because the Sentra's head gasket blew), now I only like to drive the Mazda and love to drive the Accord. This is the first car that I get to both pick and drive everyday.

I do get slightly nostalgic for my escort when I see a Tracer or Escort on the road; but the current crop of cars are so darn reliable and more difficult to fix that I think that they won't ever get the same kind of feelings that the older ones will since we don't really put as much of own labor into them.

mine was a 1977 datsun pickup with long bed. bought it used in 1980 for $3000 while in high school. i gave it away to a guy that worked with me in 1987.

my project car when i finished high school 1981 was a 1966 vw van, that i bought from a classmate for $1100.

i shortened it 2' and chopped the top 4''. built a 1776cc engine with dual webber carbs and raced it 2 times a year at the v.w. bug ins at orange county international raceway. it actuall ran high 16's with the original reduction gears still on the swing arms. being 2' shorter it actually was able to get the front wheels off the ground in first.

sold it in the late 80's for $3000.

no more project cars. just too many cars

My replacement car is a purple Chevy HHR (it is in the photo gallery). And really, how can I go wrong with purple I picked the car by the color like the girlie girl I am The only problem was it was a stick! There were only 3 left in CA. It couldn't be brought in from anywhere else cause of the emissions standards here. Rick tracked it down for me in spite of the deals getting thrown at him on other colors

I also have a turquoise 2002 t-bird that Rick bought me, but that is a whole other story
