A microbial inoculator introduce air into the septic fields or tile field which feed aerobic bacteria that "eat" the biomat. The biomat is a layer of grease and scum that lives at the interface between the gravel and dirt in the tile fields. This biomat blocks the absorption between the effluent and soils.

"ringed" threaded pipe fittings, not modern banded types. these were discontinued sometime around 1920
