    Re: Congratulations Barack Obama!

Carl, you and many others here have good, well articulated opinions that are valuable to this and other political threads. I like to know what others thin keven if I do disagree with them. Don't let the actions of the few dictate the views of the many. I say keep the political threads going.

My sister works in a very expensive restaurant and on Tuesday night two middle aged (gray haired), white McCain supporters ran out on their $350 plus bill after McCain's speech, her best guess in protest of the overwhelming support of the result in the house. In their defense she says the bartender was loud and probably obnoxious in support of McCain losing. Unprofessional for sure. So don't tip, or complain to the manager, or write a letter to the editor, or punk them on an internet review site. These two upstanding and a bit drunk republicans in their 50's thought that they would steal in protest.

Today an older gentleman who collects cans from around my work, calls himself "Tin Can Pete" told me all about how Obama will double the government. He will ruin the economy. He doesn't have any military experience so he will screw that up too. I asked the 70 y/o who was informing this young whipper-snapper if he was aware that the government grew more, has been left with the worst economy and the biggest deficit with the biggest military misstep all under the last administration? All he could do was shake his head and say that at least Bush came from a presidential family. What has Obama ever done? He wants to take from us and give it to the poor like a Socialist! I think Tin Can Pete may not quite be in the demographic he thinks he is. But what he lacked in information he made up in adamance.

Better batten down the hatches because the economy is going to tank? Better start hoarding money because Obama will screw up the economy for the working man? Funny thing is, those of us who were saying the same things when Bush got elected second term WERE RIGHT.

Give him a year until you pass judgment? You mean you expect him to fix this mess within a year?

The last administration was the least fiscally responsible ever. Now we have to pay for that. We can't all walk out on the bill like another gray haired republican is about to.

Of course, since then the thread has taken all sorts of twisted turns, and a couple of people popped in only to spew their narrow-minded hatred. That is why politics is banned here. Because of a couple people who can't discuss things without resorting to insults and bigotry.

Again, I am sorry, I guess even announcing our new president is still too political to discuss here...please close this thread and I'll do my part and not post any more threads with anything remotely political.
On the news they played a clip from Oprah's show. She made a comment that if Obama hadn't won, she would have been on an I.V. at the hospital. Making reference to what would have been deep shock and sadness. It was a joke, but her point was valid.

The Republicans are disappointed (understandably). Extreme Far Right is terrified - their reaction is to lash out in angry. Give them time to mourn and move on. You must admit, that if McCain had won there would have been those on the Far Left saying very mean things too. For Halloween someone hung a likeness of Palin for the world to see. Imagine her children seeing that on the world news??? Hatred runs deep on both sides and that is a real shame. This nation won't get past hatred until we truly try to understand the other side. I agree with Gear Junkie. We are all educated when we listen to other points of view. However, the internet is very limited and we can't see the intent or feeling behind the post. I know my words have been taken out of context and misinterpretted at times. Someone spewed hatred - so what. Ignore it, treat all with respect and they may learn something. Calling them names brings you to a lower level than you intended. Let's give the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a bad moment in a fit a anger.

If 52% of the country is right about Obama, they (Far Right) will see they have nothing to fear.

          Don't be sorry.
I think this thread has been useful to demonstrate that the forum members have the ability to self-regulate a thread and don't need Daddy to come in and separate us.

There is always going to be an angry protester or two in any platform where politics is being discussed, but the angry protesters are dismissed if they get out of hand, and the politics continues.
