  • I'm a Capitalist!

Yup. I am by far #1 in profit for my whole company since the day I started. I have one of the highest profit margins and am on pace to make over $1million in profit for my boss per year. I have been on the sales floor for less than five months and was promoted to assistant leader quicker than anyone in company history as of today.

    I got promoted today!

And your doing a huge part to get the economy back on track. Nothing happens until a salesmen does his job 1st!!! Every mattress you sell keeps people working another day. Makes you money and rewards your boss for taking a chance running a buisness. Now when do you want to start selling bidets and bidet excessories.

If you made your boss a million how much did you make selling mattresses if that is not too personal. Just curious. Sounds like mattress salesman make more than plumbers. I think you should make at least 20%. Then I'm going to tell my boss to give me a raise.

Forget my raise! My boss just came in and tole me I am the low man on the totem pole for a raise. Whatever that means I'm sure he meant forget the raise.

            *I* think I should make 20% too!!

A lot less than that. The commission changes based on the profit margin of each individual sale so it's hard to say exactly. Around 10% plus or minus. But I'll put it this way, I thought I was going to take a big pay cut moving to this job from cabinet refacing but it turned out to be not nearly as bad as what I expected. When I factor in the lack of driving to jobsites, my tool habit being snuffed out etc. I am ahead in the end.

Like the trades this job depends on the economy and people spending money so it is still scary. So far so good though. We all just have to hope we can push through this together.

            PS Thanks guys!

              Congratulations!

I'm a capitalist to! Love profit!

Reminds me of this clip. Of course, Michael Douglas' character got too greedy, but I like the speech. Everything in moderation.

8% to 10% is a comfortable living? That is more than a lot of plumbers earn. Very good!

                      Thank you very much.

To me it's same as the old one. I'll tell you, I am a lot less worried about the little guys who work the welfare system than I am about the BIG guys (banks, insurance companies, airlines, auto industry). The way I see it there are scammers at every level in every way throughout this great system. From the guy who doesn't want to work taking advantage of our help for the guys who really can't aaaallll the way up to the big shots. It's kind of funny to me what pisses off the average hard working stiffs or business owners the most.

I worked my butt off from an early age doing jobs others couldn't or wouldn't. It drove me crazy when my buddies would get discount movie tickets for being enrolled in college while I dug trenches for $10 an hour an paid for their educations through my taxes so that they could get better paying and easier jobs than me in the future, but I paid full price for my ticket. That was my pet-peeve. I don't like the no bid contracts, the tax breaks for corporations, the unaccountable bailouts or the welfare mom's either. The welfare moms are not the one's taking the bulk of my money unfairly though. JMO

I'll tell you guys what though, having been a tradesman who knows what work really is allows me KILL it in this job. I am and always will be proud of my blue collar background and feel that we have something that sets us apart. We may not have the prestige that white collar folks grant themselves, but trust me, with some exceptions--we can do what they do-and better in a lot of cases--they can't do what we do. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of hard working people and capable people in every sector, but the trades teach lessons that you can't learn any other way.

It is probably more than what most mattress salesmen earn too, because Eli is really kicking *** at his new job. It is more than what most computer programmers earn too.

Thanks Charles! The truth is sales are already dipping since I started. More customers are telling me they are worried about losing their jobs and we have seen a HUGE increase in denied finance applications. Citi is the company we finance through and they have not only raised their standards for approving applications but increased their fees to my company. That fee increase has been passed along and taken out of our sales commission. I don't expect I'll make 80-100 grand this year, but I will be able to pay my bills and for a wedding. (weddings, talk about a racket!)

Honestly, I continue to be shocked at how many people are coming in every day and buying high ticket beds. I hope that it doesn't slow down too much more for my own paycheck, but also that the spending trend will help keep the economy going in general.

I'm just glad to have a job more than anything. The paycheck has been good so far, but I don't have any expectation that it will last and I am saving as much as I can. This is contrary to what I hope other people will do, so am I really doing my part?
