  • Who wrote?

Who wrote that song with the main chorus that goes:

"How long, has this been goin' on? How long has this been goin' on?"

From the 70's heard it today and can't remember. Driving me crazy.

You're probably thinking of the version by Van Morrison. Ray Charles did a version and so did Cher.
I put it all back together better than before. There\'s lots of leftover parts.

Did he write it? He did not have the hit song. Who was the artist that made it popular?

        Thanks.

Crazy what gets stuck in your head. I listen to everything. New, old, metal, soul, rap, rock, talk, country, etc.

But for some reason this soft 70's stuff gets stuck in my head.

                  J.C.,
You might be thinking of the original version done by and popularized by Jackson Browne. Many, Many Many others have also done the song, including Van Morrison, but I'd be willing to bet that that soul singer version is the one stuck in your head. Popular about 1973. There is also another song titled, "How Long has this been going on," written by George Gershwin like in the late 1940s and recorded by just a ton of artists including Bon Jovi. Another popular "How Long" song, but not the Jackson Browne one. You can listen to the two songs on You Tube.
                  cheers,
                  Jim Don

                    Re: Who wrote?

The 1974 ACE version was the oldest one I could find. The Gershwin version and the ACE version are two totally different songs. The ACE version was written by Paul Carrack which is the one I remember as a young man.
