So is stealing copper! I think the police have decided not to file charges on either offense though.

finally have a way to prove to joey that electrocuted means death by electricity.

joey keeps telling me that it means a shock

i keep trying to convince her a shock is a shock

electrocuted / electrocution is death by a shock.

can i get some thumbs up from the gallery

time to straighten out the spelling queen

Re: I bet they didn't plan this!

I twisted wires for 20 some years and the worse I ever got was 277 on my ear lobe that drove me to my knees fast. The guy I worked for had a contract to replace ballasts and lamps in a huge store so we did it many times.Actually in a way it was kinda funny..the rolling scaffold we used was aluminum with hard rubber wheels and a thick rubber mat on the decking.I managed to find a hole in the mat that the heel of my cowboy boot fitted in and the nails in the heel I found out barely touched my sock inside so it was zappo 277 on the ear lobe and out my heel to ground,They had just mopped the floor so the rubber wheels werent of much use as an insulator. It was a combo of those things and the 277 wire had dropped down from the fixture as I turned to stand up I hit it.
A real funny 1 on stealing wire was about 4 years ago my wife would chat with me from her work in downtown Davao the philippines. One day she wasn't on to chat till she got home and left me a message..Thieves had stolen the fiber optic cable crossing the bridge to the downtown thinking it was a copper cable. It took about 4 days for PLDT to replace that line and the downtown people were really screaming at no internet or phones for those days.I think they threw the cable in the river after they found out it wasn't copper as PLDT checked all the scrap yards for weeks and never found it.

Re: I bet they didn't plan this!

                  From wiktionary:

                  http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/electrocute

                  Verb
to electrocute (third-person singular simple present electrocutes, present participle electrocuting, simple past and past participle electrocuted)
(transitive) To cause death resulting from immediate complications resulting from electric shock.
He was electrocuted for his crimes.
(informal, deprecated) To inflict a severe electric shock, not necessarily fatally.
                  [edit]Usage notes
Formally, the words electrocute and electrocution always imply fatality. Informally, however, these terms are sometimes used to refer to serious but nonfatal electric shocks. Correct usage is to reserve electrocute and electrocution for fatal electric shocks, and to use shock or electric shock for nonfatal ones.

Oxford English Dictionary is the official dictionary! This debate started probably a year ago. Before that Rick hadn't cracked open a dictionary in 25 years. . . .I am expanding his mind!

i guess with enough pros here backing my side, we'll teach joey and her too smart brother a thing or 2 about electricty.

Seems like a combination of two words electricity and execution to me.

There is no such thing as an "official" dictionary for American English.

OED is mostly useless for the average person anyway, due to the cost. I don't need to pay $300 a year to access a dictionary.
