  • New Puppy

I posted earlier this year I was "babysitting" my sons one year old Springer Spaniel "Duke" because he was too much for them to take care of. Well he missed the kids a bunch and the kids missed him a bunch. They would drop the dog off then weeks later pick the dog up. While I had the dog I spent some time training him and teaching my grand kids how to handle the dog. Now when he goes to their house to visit he is well behaved and may end up staying there for good. Since I have gotten use to having a dog around again I have decided to get a dog.

Sooooo, I was sitting around one night playing on the Internet and thought I would Google my old male "Duke of Abdale". To my surprise I found a couple of kennels who listed "Duke of Abdale" and "Sadie Scud" (my female) in their pedigree line. I found a litter from the line and the next thing I knew I purchased a puppy from a kennel in Montana. The puppy is 5 1/2 weeks old and the breeder wants to wait until she's 9 weeks to ship her. That works out for us as that is days after our vacation. Now the fun begins with picking out names and buying equipment.

    Cute pup Mark.

I don't know what I'm going to do when my ol' girl passes.
I'm sure I'll get another dog but going through the pup years is a lot of work.
I had Ridge Back that figured out how to open the fridge. Came home to an Easter ham bone, and empty butter wrappers on the floor. He also figured out how to get in the sink and turn the faucet on. That wouldn't have been too bad if he knew to turn it off after.

My female Gwen use to open the freezer (side by side) to take out food and we never knew what happened to the food or wrappers. Duke use to climb chain link fences and ladders so we didn't dare leave a ladder out or we would come home to him sitting on the roof. Sadie was much easier as her game was just to pull grates off of the yard drains and drop tennis balls down them. She would chase the balls from one drain to the next until they passed under the fence. The only time it was a problem was when she dropped the softball down the drain and I had to dig up my front yard to retrieve it.

Remind me again why I bought a new puppy?

Mark is going to be very busy once the puppy arrives. She will need DADDY around to love and protect her.

I'm sure it's a fine puppy Mark, but I can't help but think you would be just as happy with a pup from your local animal shelter. Please have it spayed and neutered.

I bought the puppy on a spay contract meaning she has to be spayed which was my preference. The dog was purchased for and will be trained as a hunting dog so a pound puppy would probably not have work.

I felt the advantage the confusion would make made up for anything else.

Take the dog out to go potty = Take Me out to go potty.
                        Here Me = Hear me?
Go outside and play with the dog = Go outside and play with Me.
Feed the dog = Feed Me
The dog bit me = Me bit me.

I could go on forever but I won't.
