  • The new meaning of U S A

Can any of you think of what a new meaning of U S A might be? You may want to THINK before posting a reply to this.

Before anyone goes apeus, our government has no intention of changing USA to mean anything other than United States of America.
I'm just thinking there may be some new things that USA might stand for.

I can think of something where the U and A remain the same but the S changes.

I think now more than any time in our recent history U.S.A. must stand for the same thing. We must understand that what happens in the states near our southern border affects us all, same goes for natural disasters, and the economy. We are not as independant of eachother as we might think. United, we have the resources and ability to rescue our America from the debt and dependance of communist china and the rest of the third world. United and working together, rahter than pointing fingers and hurling insults we can be great again.

We certainly seem to be moving away from or former values. The idea the EU and Congress would both condemn the violence on the streets of Iraq before our President is a real concern for me. I understand during the campaign he talked about more soft spoken diplomacy would help our relations with our enemies. Maybe it's just me but it does not seem to have worked in Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan or anywhere else.

Mark, people in those countries will continue to believe as they wish and their leaders will stay their course regardless of what our leaders say in my opinion. Have our embargos worked? Strong language or a soft spoken approach will not change what has not changed. I think we either accept their threat and pray for the best, or step up and eliminate it once and for all. Since China is a strong ally to these countries, at some point we will either have to face them or succumb.

I think it is worse than that. I believe they have been embolden by our recent apology tour.

                    Drip Trip,

As an amateur historian, I think I'd have to disagree with you (friendly disagreement though ).

While undoubtedly one of our greatest tragedies, the results I believe has brought about the "polish" that set the United States OF America and together we have become the shining example of democracy and its power in the world.

Before the Civil War, we were little more than a collection of individual states, each with it's own rights, laws, culture, and commerce, and also each with it's own militia for defence of the state. Most citizens swore their allegiance to thier state and not to the central government. As terrible and as costly as the Civil War was, it was the uniting factor for our country.

After the Civil War, it took less than 50 years for the USA to become a world power and another 60 years to reach where we are today. Sometimes it's been "two steps forward and one step back"... but hopefully we're learning. The problem is that we need to know our history, so we do not make the mistake of repeating our mistakes.

Sadly, there's still a few (very few, thankfully) people who still think in terms of their state's loss or the country as a north and south thing. As a guy who was born in the south and lived in the north, I've been lucky enough to see my northern and southern families as they really are...Americans with only a infinitely small political difference, but also one quite rich in it's past origins and heritage.

The meaning is still the same: The United States of America, of which I am proud.

The true question is what does our current government stand for? The misguided message of those in power, or simply that of the loudest talkers who control the media networks do not define what this country truly stands for.

Just my two cents. I will now get off of my soap box, turn it over, and use it to store ammo.

I agree, the dems are not impressing me one bit but to be completely fair neither did the republicans before them. The loss of millions of jobs, largest trade deficit in history, unsecured borders, are something both parties share. Failed bailouts and stimulus, same thing. Why can't folks realize that no matter who is in the White House, we need jobs, we need to make what we consume, we need secure borders. Do we keep defending failed policies, or admit we still need change? Key word, "United", now how do we stop growing the economy of communist china?

NH, unfortunately Sean does not practice what he preaches. I listened countless times as he suggested it was wrong to insult our President who at the time was President Bush, and I agreed. Now he himself refers to President Obama as "the chosen one" and instead of respectfully disagreeing, becomes what he dislikes most in others. Where is the middle ground where folks can objectively look at the performance of these politicians and critique with class? Neither President has impressed me, and while I have some not so nice thoughts, all I really want is for our country to do well. This has been a good Thread in my opinion.
