  • Fishing Stories & Pictures

I thought we can share some of our fishing stories or pictures.

I caught this 25 lb Chinook last December on the Wilson River, near Tillamook, OR

This June we had a family get together at the beach for a few days and I was bored so I waded out in the ocean and caught eight perch in two hrs.
Average was 1.5 lbs the largest was 2.5 lbs

Were they applying electricity to the water to make the fish jump like that?

                  That would piss me off

                        That's on the IL river.

And Vince is correct, they are not a native species.

As I understand it, some catfish farms that are on the Miss. river imported the Asian Bighead Carp to keep their ponds clean. Well, when the Miss. flooded in the early '90's, they got into the river. They have made it all the way up here and the concern is them getting into the great lakes. Supposedly they spawn year 'round and that is why the population is outta control.

The other big concern is their impact on the native species. It was predicted that the native species would die out simply because of their numbers. However, I just read an article in the local paper that said that native species (white bass, largemouth, bullhead and channel cat, etc) are doing alright- possibly because these species feed on the young carp.

No elctricity is needed to make them jump. Get yourself a boat with an outboard, bring it up off an idle, find yourself 4-5' of water and your in business. Any boat will make them jump, but an outboard seems to be the best. I've been hit by twenty pounders before. They pack a punch.

South of here is a little hillbilly town called Bath, IL (think deliverance). THere is a gal there that has a tavern made out of an old boat. She started what is called the Redneck fishing tournament. Dip nets only, no poles. Who ever gets the most fish in the boat in 2 hrs wins. I didn't go down this year, but went the two years before that. I think we got like 21 in the boat and we didn't come close to winning. Attached is a pic of the tournament from a few years ago.

                        Here is another vid:

And yea, plumbcrack, it was funny the first time or two, but now it's a royal pain in the ***.

I would think if someone would cut loose with some state money, pay for the fish by the pound, the lower income people would have that river cleaned up in a few months.I haven't seen an aluminum can on the ground out here for ten years.
