  • oil free air compressor motor

I just bought a new air compressor from Home Depot. Is the Ridgid oil free compressor reliable. Is oil better?

Sure they're reliable. Longevity will depend on how you use it. For the person who needs one single every day the oil type might be the better choice. On the other hand, the average weekend warrior will probably get a lifetime of use out of one of the oil less models.

I bought a factory reconditioned oilless compressor in 1992 that is still going strong for my weekend projects. Of course it was made in USA, which is hard to find these days in a small compressor. If you want to paint occasionally with a small airbrush you only need worry about water separator, not an oil trap as well. Oilless are louder, but that is why hoses come in 50 ft lengths!
