Yes - Its true but not released yet or popular if that makes sense.

    BUT

"Cash for Appliances" is on its way in a few weeks

Rochester, N.Y. -- Cash for Clunkers is over, but Cash for Appliances could be the next incentive program from the federal government.

It could mean rebates of $50 to $200 for buying a new refrigerator, dishwasher, or washing machine.

For Marcus Alexander and his colleagues, the program could get Charlotte Appliance’s showroom humming again.

Cash for refrigerators? Yes, and other appliances. It may be time to replace that old washing machine.

A program that kicks in this fall will give consumers cash to help buy more energy-efficient home appliances. There's no trade-in required, as in Cash for Clunkers. But rebate checks will be issued that can be used to cover everything from refrigerators and dishwashers to furnaces and air conditioners.

A program that kicks in this fall will offer consumers cash to help buy new home appliances. The federal government has set aside $300 million for the program as part of the economic stimulus plan.

    Oh and check this out:

There's no trade-in required, as in the government's "cash for clunkers" deal with consumer car trade-ins. But rebate checks will be issued that can be used to cover everything from refrigerators and dishwashers to furnaces and air conditioners.

At least you can buy a car made in the USA. For a lot of these appliances, good luck. I bought a dehumidifier Monday. Every single one at both HD and Sears was made in China.

I would love that but that's not how it worked in Canada.
Canadian stimulus includes repairs up to $10K but the break is in the form of a tax credit of 15%. Pretty much (almost) anything done around the home qualifies, including landscaping, remodeling, painting, roofing etc. Tools are excluded though.

The other day I read an article in a local paper. Someone did their math and calculated what, what and how much. It turns out that in Canada the saving of the incompetent GM and Chrysler will cost the tax payer about $2,0000,000 per one autoworker job. At average wages of $75K a year it will take one worker 26 years to make $2M and only a portion on the income will be paid back in taxes.

The most American cars (Camaro 2010 and Mustang) have 60% of components made in the US.
          Aveo - 1% American
PT Cruiser buiit in Mexico was 27% American

Figures, we just got a new washer 2 weeks ago. Got rid of the Whirlpool Calypso POC.

The most American cars (Camaro 2010 and Mustang) have 60% of components made in the US.
                Aveo - 1% American
PT Cruiser buiit in Mexico was 27% American
The original Hummer (or H1 as its known now) was assembled in Indiana alongside the HUMVEE from parts which were 98% US made, the other 2% coming from Canada and Mexico. I think this was the highest percentage of any vehicle in recent history (since the 70s).

I didn't check the forums yesterday before going out last night. Bought a new Fridgidaire (sp) side by side. Oh well, missed another gubmint rebate!
