  • the installation has begun

they rolled in at 7:45 and promply went to work. had the collector, tank, mounts, hardware, etc on the roof in 30 minutes and set to work. craftmanship supreme.

Kelly, the company owner, says they should be through by 3:30 or 4:00

Who the hell kind of contracting company starts a job at quarter of eight?

The outfit I work for STARTS , truck onsite, promptly at seven! The owner doesn't care how early we show up at the shop to load up to accomplish this, but we have boots on the ground at the above time.

they wanted to arrive at 7AM. Jackie vetoed that. we agreed at 8AM with the option to call if they got close before the appointed hour. so the majic 7:45 happened. remember "never wake the bear". until she's had her coffee and is ready to address the world NOTHIN FREAKING HAPPENS HERE!!!!!

Rick, we are on electric hot water. or were so.

the total bill was pennies over $3,700. we get a 50% cash rebate from the VI Energy Office + a 30% tax credit at the end of the year. total out of pocket expences is around $700. with a 30+% savings/month the payback is less than a year, all said & done

next may be a wind spire. but it's down the road

Wow! That's an amazing rebate. Take some pics. I'd like to see the system setup.

            Re: the installation has begun

JC, i took some shots but probably not close enough to document the installation properly. it's a simple system with the collector & tank on the roof. cold ater coming up, hot water recirculating on the roof, and plenty of hot H2O at the fixtures. we had enough water to shower before a dinner party tonight + enough hot water to clean those dishes that don't make it to the dishwasher

there was a small hangup with 2 copper/PVC fittins leaking. turned out it was the copper and with bad threads.. the unit had 3 hours of direct Caribbean sun & 1 hour WAPA to generate the 1st hot water. tomorrow around noon (without WAPA) we should have a full 50gals of solar heated water to 120 degrees

BTW, the southern footprint we have will provide DIRECT sun on the collector from 8:30AM AST to 5:15PM AST. indirect sun from 8:00AM (to 8:30AM) and 5:15PM (to 5:45PM). our sunrise/sunset is ckose to 6AM/6:30PM give or take a few
