Google is a small player in China. And MS is more than happy to fill the void with Bing.

Google did pull their servers out of mainland China. They've repositioned to Hong Kong and will no longer be filtering content, something the Chinese government required they do. It remains to be seen if the Chinese government is OK with that. If they aren't, they may go after Google in Hong Kong but that would be a major policy change for China.

I haven't read much on the Australian case. It appears he did something to offend the Chinese government. I think it should serve more as a warning to the capitalists out there that China is not a free society. If you want to do business there, you do so at your own peril. If you want the safety of fair courts do your business in countries that offer them.
