I haven't been watching "Deadliest Catch" for a while but last night I did some catching up. The couple of episodes I saw could easily have been full length moives as events unfolded gripping enough to make any wrtier proud.
Among the story lines were the impending retirement of two brothers who have fished the ocean for many years and a young man whose father is missing. The most heart wrenching scenes were with Captain Phil and his Sons. A confession of drug addiction by one, was met with love and compassion by his wise and loving Father. I could feel life slipping away from this hard working man as his strength and health finally abandoned him for good.

There were lessons in those scenes, love your family like it's your last day together because it can be! Life is a precious commodity, addicts are not just someone else's children. No matter how hard we work, careers come to an end. "Teach your children well", more than lines in a song.

There is a lot of garbage on tv, but "Deadliest Catch" stands apart on higher ground. I urge you all to tune in and watch some of these recent shows, they are well worth the time.

Rick, you appear to be a very productive and happy guy. I suggest you keep doing whatever it is that works for you and pass on the cable.

What and miss Ice Road Truckers? It's a show about guys driving trucks....... on the ice. Nothing ever really happens but the promo's sure make you think that if you keep watching, something will.

Deadliest Catch is a great show. I feel bad for Jake and hope he's gotten help, but think how he must feel knowing his dad had a massive stroke shortly after learning he is an addict. That's going to haunt him for years. It would me anyhow. Hopefully it will be the thing that gets him clean. I wish those kids the best in life.

Ice Road Truckers is a poor attempt to ride the coat tails of Deadliest Catch. It was alot better when they were in Canada, on the actual ice roads.

              Thanks for the heads up.

I think my wife made me watch a chick flick that night.

Both shows are worth watching if there is nothing else on.

And back off of Rick!!! Any solo guy that has 6 of everything has no time for tv...he is to busy dusting the tools.

NHM, let me bring you up to speed about soap operas. They are the worst sort of tv imaginable, story lines often involve infidelity, kidnap, and murder. Characters often endure amnesia and coma as a result of the aforementioned behavior. My wife watches two different soaps and I've told her a porno movie contains better human behavior, no one gets hurt and there's always a happy ending!

Deadliest Catch would never make it as a soap opera, situations with drama may arise but real men in real life resolve their problems. Nothing on the soaps is ever resolved, even characters that have been killed off rise from the dead.

I tend to throw in a DVD when I have time for TV which isn't too often. I did watch Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch, and Ax Men for a while but they didn't catch my interest enough to stick with them every week. Is there anything out there now like the Sopranos or The Shield? I miss those shows.

"There's a scam hatched every minute"...oh...wait...that's supposed to read "there's a sucker born every minute" In the end I guess it's the same thing, somebody's getting taken.

If you have not watched NCIS, give it a try. The characters are interesting and the story lines well written. Aside from being entertained, there's all sorts of things you can learn from watching. I learned what a "Bolo" is, "Be On the Look Out".

I was curious as well so I searched the web. The network got him into treatment and he completed it and as of a week ago he is sober. Right after his dad died he got a DUI hit and run and that was the breaking point.

I agree, how ever the newer guy on the show Jack Jesse has iron kahunas.

i've driven that road, summer and winter

it's dangerous, but hardly worth a whole TV show

maybe it's not special to me because I live here
