I have had the same problem and it appears to be a problem with all pumps that have a "water sensor switch" I have to pull out the pump wipe off the grime and it works again. It should stop cycling until the pit fills again. I have heard you can get a float system to replace the sensor from Ridgid but haven't tried yet. My sensor worked fine for two seasons and just failed this year but I keep a fine mesh screen over the pump to protect it from debris? Hope this helps
