    Re: windows recovery virus

i did a quick search online and this web site gives instructions on how to remove it.

    http://www.review-buddy.com/spyware-...y-removal.html

do you have an antivirus program ? if you do set it to run on bootup to do a full system scan and it may quarantine it for you.

if you dont have a anitivirus program to to
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
use the free version of Avast and scan with it.

hope you get it off you're PC soon.

MalWare Bytes usually has something to remove things like this.

Problem is if the virus has been going on long you're going to lose enough of the control of the computer that you won't be able to get there and download/run it.

You probably will have to do it with another computer loaded to disc. Then put it in the infected computer. Then that might not even work.

Backup what's important if you can.

Then you might have to reload the original software to take you back to the beginning of what was on the computer when new. Wiping out ALL of anything you have on the computer now.

I'm definitely no expert on the subject though.

      Good luck.

Link to MalWareBytes. Never heard anything negative about them.

Excellent suggestions on the avast and malwarebytes. I was able to get them for free from this link. Not sure if the malware one is still free.

              Re: windows recovery virus

After reading a bit about the virus it seems its not too destructive unless you let it run wild....I've decided to just take the laptop in for repair. A person knowing what they are doing can clear it off pretty easy from what I've read.

All I want are my pictures and they are still intact just hidden. I can unhide them but the virus hides them again. I have most of them on a thumb drive backed up but not all. When I realized the box had a virus I immediately disconnected from the internet and have not connected that computer back online. I bought two new laptops yesterday....Cheap ones and love them both.

+1 on the Malwarebytes. I had it on my old computer and when I got a new computer a few weeks ago I downloaded it to the new one. It's still free to download.

I agree that's it's a great program along with avast. Could you post the link for the Malwarebytes, I tried the majorgeeks.com but didn't see it as free anymore. Thanks. Frank

Frankiarmz, jeez, it was just a couple of weeks ago that I downloaded it but now I can't find it. I thought I found it at ZDNet but I couldn't find the free version there. I'll keep looking for it and get back to you. Again, I blame this memory shortfall on the 60's!

THANKS.....I downloaded this to a flashdrive and updated it....then I installed it on my infected computer and its scanning now.

I guess if this doesn't work I'ma take it to a computer guy and let him tinker wid it.
