  • Re: Gun Control

Mark, I wonder how many more law abiding gun owners could have been in the right place if responsible hand gun posession was encouraged? In many places a folding knife (concealed weapon) is illegal. I refuse to give up my tactical folding knife, I carry it whevever I go out. Frank

During the Ridgid Roundup one year Ridgid treated us to a trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park. While at the park, security confiscated Adam's pocket knife. It was not a menacing blade but it was against the rules.

Mark, was Adam openly displaying the knife? Mine stays in my pocket. I also like the idea of having it in case I need to cut a seatbelt or perform some other necessary task.

I read something similar to that a few weeks ago, when I wanted to understand what Tony was talking about with his country.

I believe in checks and balances, and I'm against any government trying to disarm it's people. This isn't a dictatorship here in the United States of America, like the current dictator thinks it is.

Just read quotes from Obama this morning on fox news, in where Obama is trying to bully the Republicans on gun control.

It reminds me of Saul Alinsky's #8 rule & #10 rule from his list of 12. When you have the media on your side, it's much easier to get pressure from the public.

RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new. (Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.)

RULE 10: “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog. (Unions used this tactic. Peaceful [albeit loud] demonstrations during the heyday of unions in the early to mid-20th Century incurred management’s wrath, often in the form of violence that eventually brought public sympathy to their side.)

Sort of like if you call someone a dictator, a socialist, a self appointed king, the anointed one, an illegal citizen long enough and often enough, you can get a whole fringe group of right wing extremists to believe its true. Like when you refer to unions and union members you begin each conversation with the words " Union Thugs". Say it enough and folks begin to believe that all unions are corrupt and run by the mafia. The democrats are doing nothing that the republicans have not done. Those same tactics are employed every day by Limbaugh, hannity, beck, levin et.al.

Maybe that's how you see in that little bubble you live in, but I take people at their word, and accordingly classify them as such.

                  The hypocrisy runs rampant.

I'd bet that better than 90% of those bandying the words dictator, progressive, socialist, conservative, and liberal have no clue what they are talking about. They heard those terms applied by con men radio and tv hosts that MAKE THEIR LIVINGS by stirring up emotion and they don't give a rats rear end about truth, facts or common sense. Most calling themselves conservatives don't know what the word means when applied to the political arena but because they idolize the talking heads, they proudly proclaim their membership without bothering to STUDY HISTORY. Which brings me to my next point and that is the vital importance of teaching, learning and understanding history.

Funny how I used to think how antiAmerican guys like shaun hannity were for suggesting it was unpatriotic to disagree with then President Bush. Now the same is said about those who disagree with President Obama. We were supposed to get transparency, but we got closed door deals and same old dirty Washington as usual behavior. In my opinion the democrats have failed to impress. They are supposed to be for labor but they crumble to the influence of environmentalists. Just a different puppet master pulling the strings and it's not we the people.

Where I come from, we call people for what they are...a thief is a thief and a spade is a spade. Obama has made his bed, and now he has to lie in it.

Speaking of teaching, it pains me that you're in a position to influence a young mind. A teacher is supposed to have an unbiased point of view and it's obvious you don't.

Flux you are right in theory, but in practice teachers voice their opinions and students usually don't rock the boat. If we were to sit in on some high school classes there would be hell to pay as we argued the opinions being taught. I guess time will tell if President Obama's agenda was wise. I still don't see how our mounting national debt is a nonissue? Will another credit downgrade matter?

Flux, back when President Bush was in office I watched bill oreilly and shaun hannity. Hannity was constantly saying it was wrong to doubt the President because it undermined our democracy. I disagreed with him then and I do so now with those who think we should shut up if we disagree with President Obama. I don't believe in being disrespectful with name calling and there was a lot aimed at President Bush as well as President Obama. Calling obama, the chosen one and all that is not necessary, just say why you disagree

First off, who says teachers have to be unbiased? And second off once again the hypocrisy is showing. If I was influencing those young minds with your particular brand of right wing rhetoric you would be praising my efforts but regardless of what you may think you know about my point of view, I assure you that you don't have a clue. I am a republican. I have always been a registered republican and I suspect that unless the party allows the tea party wacko right wing to dominate it, I will always be a republican. What I am not is someone that can be persuaded to follow ideas and policies that are either unconstitutional, impractical or just plain stupid. I do not allow the limbaugh's and the Hannity's of the world to shape my opinions. I actually take the time to source my information and to think about the long term ramifications of policies rather that spout off like some back woods ignoramus that would rather let others do their thinking for them. So next time you decide to pigeonhole me into your idea of a spade being a spade I caution you to think again. Your knowledge of Obama and what he is all about is solely driven by what you hear on the radio, and television and evn there you choose to believe what conveniently fits into your own perceptions. I'm done here because its pointless to as Glenn Beck so eloquently put it "argue with idiots"
