    I wonder if they were hydro-vac brakes. I think that's what they were called anyway, was about 40 years ago so I might be mistaken. They were not air brakes vaccum assist hydraulic brakes, more powerful than power brakes on cars and light trucks. I remember driving an 72 IH cabover 28' straight truck that had those type brakes. If you pumped them too much you would lose the power assist.

      in the early 1950's the upgraded to a compressed air system which looked nearly identical and it was a air booster VS vacuum system, and brakes are weak without the air pressure,
