  • How does the saying go?

You can do it good, cheap or fast. Pick two? It's something like that.

Asking because I see it all the time.I repiped one of my houses with, and a job or two where it was the best choice for the customer's money and for my time involved.I try to stick to drain cleaning only,as my pickup is not large enough for lots of material, and I dislike running back and forth to part stores, besides I no longer wish to have a cramped /cluttered truck.
            So,just would like to ponder your{or anyone's reason's}again.

Time, Cost, or Quality...pick any two but you can't have all three.
"When we build let us think we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work that our descendants will thank us for, and let us think, as we lay stone upon stone, that a time is to come when these stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, "See! This our fathers did for us."
              John Ruskin (1819 - 1900)

                Copper Pipe

                Advantages:

                1. Resists corrosion more than other metals like steel or brass.
                2. Can be used outdoors, unaffected by sunlight (UV).
                3. It’s fireproof and doesn’t release toxic gas in case of fire.
                4. Recyclable.

                Disadvantages:

                1. Average cost of copper pipes is 4-6 higher than of the PEX pipe.
                2. Water could have metallic taste if copper is corroded.
                3. New copper plumbing systems may require chemical treatment to remove leftover solder from brazing the joints.
                4. Copper pipes are high likely to burst when water in the pipes freezes.
                5. More difficult to install than PEX tubing because of its rigidity, requires more PEX fittings and connections.

                PEX Pipe

                Advantages:

                1. Requires fewer fittings, easier to install, less likely to have a leak.
                2. Very cost effective, requires less labor.
                3. Can have long continuous runs without the need for couplings.
                4. Is able to expand and contract making it more burst resistant than copper, brass, and other rigid pipes.
                5. Has good chemical resistance.
                6. Pipes can be bent around almost any corner without an elbow fitting.
                7. Quieter, reduces “water hammer”.
                8. Recyclable mechanically, chemically, and thermally.

                Disadvantages:

                1. Can’t be used outside.

                Your turn

This is false. Pex with a UV barrier can be used outside, or underground.

In my experience, AT BEST you can pick only two. Usually have to settle for just one.
This is my reminder to myself that no good will ever come from discussing politics or religion with anyone, ever.

                          Most of them do.
