  • veritas jig question

I bought the veritas jig and angle setter. inbetween the jig itself where the tool is held at the proper angle...there is a piece of foam with a sticky side. which side should this be stuck to? i will assume the bottom as it makes more sense given it's side, but the bottom has several lines which could be reference points to keep the tool being sharpened square?

the directions on the pkg do not indicate which side to stick this thing to. any assistance is appreciated

    If it is this one

the foam is stuck to the flat metal plate with the lines on it (if you look real close at the pic you can just see it under the chisel). It helps keep the blade from moving. With the tool steel wedged in the angle set and the guide pressed firmly in place with its roller resting on the angle sets flat base the tool to be sharpened will be square. The pressure you use with your finger tips on the blade edge will determine how the metal is honed more than if the blade is square in the jig
