    Boiler refractory

Had the boiler inspector drop by this week and told me I needed to repair the refractory on my hot water boiler. Boiler is 6 years old. Also told me I needed an emergency shut off to the boilers outside the mechanical room.

My question is how big of a job is replacing the refractory? Keeping in mind it not a hug boiler.

    Thx

no offense, but if you don't know enough about this unit and the btu's, you shouldn't be messing with it.

i am taking an educated guess that it's more like 2,880,000. btu's.

it's not a difficult job to disassemble the sheet metal and remove the heat exchanger to get to the refractory stone.

i would bring in a person who is familiar with this heater to assist you. check with the company for a parts break down and availability of replacement refractory stones/ insulation. this stuff is fairly delicate.

What make/model is the boiler, and how what is the burner input in Btuh (should Say on the rating plate). I don't know what the inspector wants for an emergency shut off..Did he say electrical disconnect? Knowing what province you are in will let me know which code the inspector is enforcing.
