  • Pex ???

Just started with an AC company a few months ago...company also does plumbing...were In Florida BTW....any way when Slow I play plumers helper....ran accross PEX in the process....even plumers say they never used it till they got to this shop...Seems like neat stuff...simple...even an ac guy can do it but got some ??? about it. Tried doing a search on this site and got nothing for PEX...even when I seen it in a few post....

Is pex a fairly new thing? Is it commonly used in the pluming trades in other states?

We use 20ft sections..even for a repipe...but on a web site seen it in rolls..how do u all use it rolls or sections? any advantage /disadvantage of rolls vs sections? Thinking less joints.

We only use the clear/white stuff...1/2" and 3/4" for residential work...not super sure....since only help a little....but how large do they make pex?..ie up to 4" or just small stuff.

On one web site about pex I noticed some came with a matalic coating....said advantage of copper with PEX or something like that....anyone used the encased pex? why? what is the advantage of it?

About it...but please add anything u think might help a lost ac guy understand pex...thanks all.

That's right, can't have any joints in a slab. Roll the line out to a manifold in the wall and branch out from there. Sunlight is pex's big problem coupled with improper installation. Remember you need strapping at least every 32". It will bend but only so much. Big problems are the bands being installed crooked causing leaks. Pex does expand and contract so expansion loops are used.

Maybe a search of manufactors will help. Zurn, rehau, upnor, wirsbo.
    Hope this helps.

I don't know, maybe they do. I just listed those as keywords to a search engine.
