I want to add a sink in the basement and need to connect to the copper waste water system. I am planning on using plastic since copper will cost a fortune. Do I need some special fitting or anything else I need to know?
As long as the pipe is supported above you can cut out a section of copper pipe to accomodate you're new pipe and sanitary tee.The neoprene couplings you need to make the difference in outside diameters can be found at your local plumbing supply house. Is the copper pipe is a waste or vent line? If it is a waste line the new branch for your sink is going to need a vent so you don't lose your trap seal as the waste water rushes down the stack.
