  • Gas pipe support code requirements

I noticed that my 1" gas pipe is not supported where it runs parallel to the floor joists. I plan on installing some supports but need to know the support interval I should use.

    Thanks!

Michigan uses the International code series.

I would use the most stringent requirement to be on the safe side.

International Fuel gas code 2006- section 415 Table 415.1 states:

" Steel pipe 3/4 or 1 inch shall have spacing of supports @ 8 foot "

I stand corrected as I referred to the IPC not the IFGC. That's the problem with the ICC and their Codes. Why would the Plumbing and the Fuel Gas Code contradict each other on pipe support. Perhaps that is why most of the West stuck with the Uniform Codes.

Thanks for the information. I'll pick up some supports and install them at 8 foot intervals.

It was about 23 feet that was unsupported so I added three additional supports. It is now supported to code and that's good enough for me.

                    Under the UPC 6' is for 1/2" and 3/4' but it's 8' for 1".
