  • Need to cap pipe flush with slab

What is the best way to cap a 3" pvc drain pipe flush with slab? Originally, there were 2 drain lines in the slab and the one that is to be capped was not used. It needs to be cut flush and capped because a wall is now going to go over where it is.

There are a couple pics attached

Some will say grind it level, then pack with newspaper and dump concrete or plumbers dynamite down it.

I am always one to break out the concrete, and the no hub and blind plug it.

the simplest way is to dynamite (plumbers) it as robert mentioned.

there is another easy way to cap it. i have these flush fitting plugs that i sometimes use for a clean out after the concrete is poured.

it's an internal threaded adapter and plug that fits flush.

they are called "tom caps" i think

i use a die grinder to cut it internally. then glue it in.

If it was me, I would leave the pipe and install a cleanout there. Cover the cap with a 6" ss cover plate.
        Buy cheap, buy twice.

There is a wall over it, and the pipe is about 1" off center of the plane of the wall. It needs to be cut off flush with the concrete and then capped internally.

I had a similar situation at one time only with 4 inch PVC. I ground the words off of the side of a 3 inch PVC cap and glued it into the pipe sort of like the way a toilet flange glues in. Then I filled it with concete. Don't know if that helps ya.

There is a bigger story here.Where is your plumber with the copper leaks. If he is a licensed plumber why is he not taking care of this?

Its the same plumber that left a leaking supply system saying drywall was ready to go on. He is very slow to return calls.

If my customer was going to a Forum to get answers on stuff I should be handling, I am not doing my job and have no right working or owning a company.

                          Horrible, I would be embarassed.

How long is that branch? Are you leaving a dead end? No bubble gum please cut concrete and remove branch.

I would make the wall thicker and still install a cleanout with that pipe.
