yes they can. but typically with the larger threading machine dies and not the hand dies.

what model and size die are you asking about?

Thaks for the reply! I am new to the forum.
In particular a RIDGID Cat. No. 37875 3/4" NPT hand threader. It seems with the right set up and a surface grinder you should be able to sharpen it. I am also a Tool Maker by trade and have sharpening experience but not with threading dies.

truthfully those dies are only $35. for a set of 4.

they are made as a set in a special set up that grinds all 4 as a set.

it's done with a diamond profile wheel in a cnc machine.

there is no way to properly duplicate the matched set.

i would buy a new set and then play around with the old set for fun.

if you can pull it off, that would be impressive

35 Bucks!! That's two cases of beer. Yup, I'm cheap.
A local supply house wants $46.
I'm going to give it a try and will post my results.
          Thanks

            Re: Sharpening Dies?

I would think one could hit the face of the die and renew the cutting edge fairly easy, if there are not chipped. I have not tried, as most of my dull dies usually end up with a tooth chipped I would not think if you have any tool sharpening experience that to refresh the face of the dies would be that hard,

I drew a arrow on the picture for what I called the face,
