Re: 30lb felt under bath tubs and insulation

I don't like foam,it continues the perception of cheaper products are acceptable.I give the base of the poorly made, flexible fiberglass tubs density by installing felt and mortar.

If you use foam without plastic membrane between it and tub you may get bit.If you have to pull it for any reason(lots of plumbing under there)
It is very likely it will get destroyed trying to get it to unstick.

Mortar beds are the way to go...Thats how I do all my renovations and it will make the softest tub feel solid. I have also packed / pressed in mortar after the fact on some tubs to make them more solid.

Some manufacturers do not recommend roofing felt under under certain plastic type tubs , both are petrochemical based and can react with each other . Sterling tubs are shipped by Kohler with fabric mat in the tub box .

I just installed a tub and the installation instructions called for a fabric mat between the tub and sub floor.
