  • Garbage Disposal and Dishwasher hook-up to a single drain

I have recently just replaced my double drain sink with a single drain sink. I now need to redo all the plumbing to allow for single drain usage. I am having a hard time trying to find what is the proper way to install the disposal and dishwasher to a single drain, and at the same time what is the proper layout of the PVC piping.

I was thinking of connecting the dishwasher to the garbage disposal and then running an S trap from the disposal to the drainage system. The drain is at the bottom of the cabinet and not at the back of the cabinet. One other concern I have is I have no vent pipe under the sink as of now, and was thinking a capping it with a charcoal vent (I think that is what it is called).

So the big question. What is the correct way to connect a garbage disposal, dishwasher, and plumbing to a single drain sink? Thanks. Rob

The black hose is the dishwasher drain, some states and situations don't require the air-gap installed in the diagram, in that case install the dishwasher drain hose directly to the disposal, but support the hose so there is no back-wash. The p-trap in the diagram should terminate at the vertical waste/vent stack.
If in doubt, call a licensed plumber to install everything to code.

On the same note, what is the proper way to connect a dishwasher to the plumbing system with no sink in a residential application?

I would still connect the dishwasher w/an air gap into a P-trap
