I think Whirlpools are made by American Water heaters which is an AO Smith company. Is this correct? I also heard that Kenmores are AO Smiths.

              Satisfied with 50 gal?
How long are you going to live there?
              What's your water quality?
              Do you have a budget?
              Where is it located?

              Completely serious questions.

New york is an old city. Usually only new developments and houses have them. Many city water departments across the country are slowly changing the meters to prevent backflow. Here everyone has a PRV, so everyone (except for private wells) has to have an expansion tank.

p.s. don't forget I learned plumbing in New york, and yes, the plumbing and utility systems tended to be old. Here (and many parts of the country) there is still lots of development, so the utilities are sometimes very new.

I don't understand why he doesn't just call a licensed plumber?

You're right Carl. That's what I told him to do but I was trying to be helpful. But I'm done.

Simple questions fine. But how do you do this? How do you do that? Why do you do this? Why do you do that? HOW MUCH TO DO THAT?

                        Beating it to death man.

I'm planning to live here for the foreseeable future. The water quality is better than the budget. The GE 12 year at Home Depot is $339. I was impressed with the last water heater, which was a rheem. Thanks for the help by the way.

I probably will end up calling one, but it doesn't hurt to know what the plumber is going to install. For example, I can tell him I want a Rheem, hard piped, with a pan.. I noticed it isn't that much to hire it out. I just don't want a guy hooking up a piece of junk with cpvc.

Ok, thats respectable. Just call someone with a good reputation (if you know one) and you'll get a solid job.

Last time I checked New York was a state. I dont live or work in NYC. We have plenty of new houses in the areas I work. You may have learned plumbing in NYC but there is so much more the NY then the city.

Do you run into alot of Croton Valves in N.C.? What do you think is the biggest difference between the one's you have seen in NYC and the ones out there? If you dont see them there, why is that?
