  • Oil Fired Water Heaters

We don't see them here, but is it something to consider? Are oil fired water heaters good/bad vs. nat. gas & LP?

    Thanks.

They are good for commercial applications though not my first choice. They are expensive to buy and install for obvious reasons. The recovery rate is pretty good but not stellar. And in commercial applications they tend to burn out pretty quick. I much prefer munchkins and superstore's

When we installed them in new york, I remember a few things about them:

      1) they cost a bunch

      2) They actually lasted awhile in residential homes as long as they were serviced properly.

      3) The recovery rate was quite fast.

But as NHmaster said, if someone has oil heat, then the best water heating application is to pipe in an indirect heater (Superstore) to the boiler.

I'd sooner recommend a propane or electric for area's without NG.

Last I checked they were pricier than propane heaters.

...and that, first question I ask when I get an oil heater request...."Do you have a boiler?... or furnace?"

About a year ago my oil company quoted me $3400 for an 80 gallon one. Don't remember the recovery rate. A bit too rich for my blood.
