  • PEX for outside use?

I know that you are not supposed to use PEX outside because the sunlight deteriorates it. Question is there any PEX rated for outside use? Reason I ask is I have some outside plumbing at my cottage (in South Carolina). I try to drain it for the winter but no always well enough. If we have a hard freeze (rare) the copper or CPVC I have used in the past will split. I understand PEX is more forgiving of freeze and thawing. Any type of PEX rated for outside use?

    just a thought.

why not just put a sleeve over it with pvc uv safe electrical conduit?

it can be one size larger so that it could be sliced and popped over the pex easily.

    just a thought.

Viega makes aluma-pex, which is pex with an aluminum outer coating. It's ok for outside use.

I have copper piped houses with all the water lines pitched to a drain point.
