  • Steam raditator banging

I just installed a new Weil Mclaine steam boiler, my problem is one raditator bangs when the system heats up its a one pipe system ive tried to level the raditator so its pitched towards the valve aabout 1/16 of an inch could it be the valve is no good and not letting all the condensate drain out, only half the radiator heats up.

if your pipes arent insulated and its one of the last radiators than the steam can cool before it reaches the radiator.

        PC,

seems like you know a little 'bout steam.

give us, (mostly me) some insight on your knowledge.

Is it the last radiator from the boiler?

Thank you for all your input on my radiator problem iam very sorry it has taking me so long to get back ( computer problems) the radiator is fed off of another thats about 4 ft away and it is not the furthest from the boiler, i changed out the 1 1/4 feed valve and also the the auto vent now the radiator doesnt heat up the pipe feeding it heats all the way up to about 2 ft than gets cold, could the pipe be plugged with rust and corrosion ?

Can you show how the two radiators are connected?

Probably this radiator never heated. I just saw a drawing in the last few days showing the proper way to pipe radiators in tandem. When I find it again I will try to give you the reference.

I believe you need to run an 11/4" line under both rads and use tees to pipe up to the inlets of the rads. Of course you need to pitch everything and you will need to raise the rads high enough to clear the pipe. If I am wrong, please, someone correct me.

Also check heatinghelp.com for the real experts. See if Dan Holohan has something posted in the "Library or FAQ or??.

Shouldn't this be posted on the plumbers discussion thread?

You have any traps on this system?

                  Possibly a cage unit?
