  • Oh, help! Snake/auger stuck in bath drain!

HELP! The thread title says it all. Drain has been stuck for months. After several bottles of every drain cleaner out there, we tried a regular snake. Nothing.

(We are going through the hole in the wall behind the lever thingy, not through the drain in the floor.)

And, when the sink is turned on, the tub fills up. So we also tried going through the plumbing in the wall where the sink plumbing goes. Nothing.

So, we bought a 'better' auger. One you can attach a drill to. It went in all the way! Hooray!

Now we can't get it out. It is completely stuck.

Other websites say to YANK hard, pour bottles of soap down the hole with the auger in it...

    What should we do?

Use reverse on the drill and pull hard.
You can lose with me, but you can't win without me!.... PPI

OH, ha, ha. Thanks for your compassion.

We tried reversing the snake, but the line doesn't rotate. I don't think there is enough of the cable in the drum (or whatever you call it) to grab hold properly.

Seriously. If you have tried as you say you're right on the edge from turning a smaller plumbing problem into a HUGE plumbing problem costing you much more than if you just bit the bullet and called a local plumber your friends/family recommend.

Yea, I think this is a two-man job. Better send me a plane ticket as well. No-charge for this one.

Next time call a PRO! Drainology is a science, not to be messed with by simple laymen.

Well, hindsight is 20-20 as they say. At this point we are just trying our best to work within our budget.

Any advice on getting that thing out would be helpful. Will pulling on it hard damage the plumbing?

Chain it to your truck bumper and floor it in first gear.

Yes, you can damage your plumbing costing you much more. People come here all the time for answers and get really frustrated when they don't get the one they want. They just know if they keep looking they'll find a cheaper way.

                        I've done it too.

But I think it will be cheaper in the longrun if you call a professional.

pull the rest of the remaining cable out of the drum.

then chuck up the cable to a low power drill with reverse.

go easy as the cable will either spin free or break.

don't overpower it, let the cable spin slow and slowly pull back and it should unwind.

now if this fixes it, i'll be glad to take you up on that hawaian vacation

                          please post results
