    i have a ? about fastening copper water lines to the floor joists.do i need to solder them to the fasteners or do you let the pipe move a little.i was going to use the copper straps that wrap around the pipe and have a nail on both sides.thanks

    You can do it that way if your not going to insulate, but most plumbers use the nylon 2 hole pipe straps that isolate to prevent the creaking noise from expansion and contraction of hot water lines.

      Use full nail Sioux Clips.

        I slice a small piece of foam insulation off of those six foot sticks and put it over the pipe before strapping it with a plastic coated wire hanger. This made for a quieter system. Use the same insulation on your hot water piping to help retain heat.

          Don't let any copper touch wood.It will varnish the wood and tick when it expands and contracts with temperature changes.
