Go back under with a camera . Take good pictures, to a real plumbing supply [not home depot!] They will sell You what You need. You'll need banded couplings to adapt to old plumbing ,with abs trap. Also a sawsall with metal blade to cut old metal. New trap needs to have compression rings to take apart next time it's blocked !
I can build anything You want , if you draw a picture of it , on the back of a big enough check .

Never mind. We figured it out ourselves.

I wonder if he's, a doctor?? He wanted some advice. We get limited information with their descriptions. People here are nice enough, and try to help him out. I don't understand why he wouldn't want to give something back and to tell us what they figured out.

Re: Tub Plumbing Problems in 60 year old Home

Just a quick summary: We are cutting off the drum at the solder (the cast iron hub looks fine) and installing a proflex no-hub coupling, p-trap, and the rest going back to the tub will be new pvc. Of course, we also have to install a new tub kit and new tub faucet, shower head, etc.

It was good advice to give regarding taking pictures to a plumbing store. This is why we had posted the pics right after that. After doing more digging online, we found someone else who had a similar problem. Pics always help, as we saw exactly how it was fixed.

However, I don't think anyone can assume either way that we either know or don't know things. We are just blue collar people trying to fix this ourselves. We know a thing or two about this and that. We were just unsure of which couplings et al to use to change over to PVC. We have a lot of work to do to our house because it is old and the previous owners did some scary work that could definitely end up on the top most idiotic things people do to their homes. We want to do it right the first time, and we do not always have the money to spend on a plumber if we can do it just as well. No offense to anyone here, but we were willing to call a plumber if it wasn't something that we could do correctly. After researching this, we are pretty confident that we are able to do this correctly without having to call a plumber.

                        Thanks!

Sorry! I wasn't trying to be ugly. The other person offended me a bit by being sarcastic about my username, but your advice did help. We had snapped some pics after that in case we needed to take them to show someone. We thought we could do this ourselves, and we would have been irritated if we had called a plumber and they did the same thing that we had figured out.

Yes, I was a bit offended. Yes, I know. Bad judgment removing my posts, but I was just trying to get a quick opinion before having to call someone. It was midnight, and I was irritated.

Our bathtub is clogged. We snaked it first. We crawled into the crawlspace to find an old drum trap that is cracked on the side. We couldn't remove the lid without cracking the drum even more.
I asked for help on removing the drum trap and replacing it with a p-trap and new pvc.
