  • broken abs flange, what now?

    hi everyone,
my brother in law retiled my guest bathroom and removed the toilet to replace it with a new one. when i looked at the abs flange it was cracked in two places. attached are pictures of what it looks like after removing the broken pieces. where do i go from here? the flange is glued into the main, larger pipe below. do i get the pipe cutter attachment for my drill and remove the pipe and put in new pipe? would just a replacement flange work? something like this?

thanks for the advice, just want to make sure i get it right the first time

Cut the top of the flange off flush with the existing pipe with a pipe shooter or a cutting wheel on a Dremel tool. You should then be able to cut the flange hub vertically with either a hacksaw blade or a reciprocating saw. Cut it in more than one place, (being careful not to cut deep enough to cut into the 3" ABS. Then gently peel away using a hammer and screwdriver. Now all that is left to do is glue on the new flange. Good luck! I would not try to use a repair ring if I were you.

Ugh! that's a real pain in the ***! it might be best for you to hire
a qualified plumber to replace the closet flange. Why screw it up
even more if you don't have the tools and skill to continue?

If you have enought funds to tile the floor gee whize just
hire a journey man level plumber to replace and set the water
closet, don't get too cheap or you'll get burned!

If you can get to the drain from below and have enough pipe to work with I would just cut the drain and stub up an new piece and glue on a new flange. And if you have too cut out the 1/4 bend or tee it is going into and just re pipe it so you can re stub up thru floor and glue on new flange.
