    Here ya' go. Gate valves have to be exercised regularly. Globe valves one of the plumbing experts can probably advise you.

      A gate valve's intended purpose is for 'on/off' control. If you used a gate valve for your garden hose then the hose could either be off completely or on completely. There is some middle area but it is not recommended to use this type of valve for throttling. This is where the globe valve comes in. A globe valve is used for throttle control or flow control. You can control your valve position with high accuracy within a range from 0% (closed) to 100% (open). This is more then likely the type of valve your garden hose uses.

      Don't confuse a gate valve with a quarter turn ball valve. Although similar in function they are completely different in design.
