  • electrical assisted solar hot water tank question

Have a 80 gal electrical assisted solar hot water tank: http://www.altestore.com/store/Solar...-Element/p198/

    it was installed in 2001.

just found some water at the bottom, refer to the photo attached please.
The water is red/yellow looks like from where is rusty.
The water is cold but water inside the tank should be very hot because lots of sun shine outside recently.

checked pipes connect to the tank. no leakage found.

does my tank start leaking or it is just condensation?

If it is time to replace it, any recommendation of better products?

    thanks,

At 8 years olds, yes the tank could have rusted out and is now leaking. I've seen leaks at the threads where the electrical element screws into the tank (or bolted in). No way that's condensation...way too much water for that from your pic.

8 years is pretty fast for an electric tank. i would look under the upper and lower thermostat (blue)covers. turn off the power so we don't read about you

      look at the element connections.

also look at every connection into the tank. top and sides.

what is the operating temperature of your tank on a hot day?

any pumps or valves that are next to the heater?

there are still some solar tanks out here from the 70's
