        Lets back up.

Can you tell me the series number? the series number is a (usually) 3 digit number after the model number. Example: FPSH 50 248

A couple of years ago we got a call from a GC about a house we had done for him a few years before where the owner had called Roto Rooter to replace the water heater. The RR guy hooked up a new conventional water heater to the existing power vent flue. Of course the flue pipe melted. Fortunately, it didn't set the house on fire before we were alerted. Mighty embarassed RR manager met us and GC at the house. He couldn't eat enough crow. GC stuck him with our bill to correct the error and a threat to call in the authorities if there was the least complaint on the part of RR. HO got a free heater. Lucky she didn't lose her house. She couldn't explain why she didn't call us first. HO's are a wierd lot. Necessary evil, I guess.

That heater has a Honeywell Smart Valve. It will flash an error code when it doesn't light but it should keep trying after an hour.

Page 28 shows the sequence of operation for your heater and error codes

Re: power vent hot water heater problem

Did you troubleshoot it or just keep flipping the dial back and forth?
Did you even read the manual?

                          6 flash error code:

                          1. Reversed polarity in 115 volt power supply.
                          2. Heater/burner not properly earth grounded, check pin 3 on wire harness plug (valve end) to burner tube for 115 volts, check ground path to burner.
                          3. Ground fault interruption (GFI) breaker causing intermittent operation, try non-GFI outlet.
                          4. Flame sense rod dirty or incorrectly positioned.
                          5. Vent system length exceeded, too many elbows,
                          6. Flame sense/HSI wiring condition/connections.
                          7. Low or no supply gas pressure.
                          9. Damaged, defective, or incorrectly positioned HSI

Number 1 and 2 are most likely the suspects.

Do a google search on what a flame sensor rod is and give a a cleaning then enjoy your hot water. This is a VERY common problem.
What do you guys like for cleaning these?
I like steel wool but have heard some guys use emery cloth!
