  • Cleaning my water pipes?

Today as I was doing a plumbing project I got to thinking about the "stuff" that seems to build up inside the copper pipes. It is a black substance and was really thick on the outlet side of the hot water tank.
So should a person be doing some type of maintenance on the piping?

Where ever you live the water is a little tough and likely somewhat aggressive.
    How old is your house?
Many pipes I see like this, the old copper (40-50 years old)
is half full of this stuff and thin as hell.
The maintenance would be replacement *if* this might be the age of your copper.

The lines are not plugged by any means. Just that deposi on the walls.
