  • Joining PVC to galvanized lawn pipe

I have a leak in a 30 year old galvanized sprinkler pipe.

I need to fix one leak at a 90 elbow.

Harder problem is I have a galvanized T where the landscaper wants to mate some PVC. Some landscapers won't work because they fear old galvanized will crumble when trying to break free.

Can I heat or freeze old T to loosen up threads?

Can I cut out the old T and weld in new T?

There used to be a product of 2 fillers that would weld metal. Used it on my motorcycle.

One landscaper wants to use PVC union with compression fittings to mate galvanized. Other says won't last as rust will destroy rubber fittings.

    Thank you,

Try some "P-B blaster" on the threads several times, then wrench it off.
