  • Is WHITE VINEGAR OK to remove toilet bowl minerals

Occasionally I will pour inexpensive Wal-Mart white vinegar into our bowl and let it set overnight until we use and flush the toilet the next morning.

Is the acid damaging the surface in any way?

(My wife's parents in China had a toilet with much buildup in the outlet area. It would not brush away.
I bought the strongest vinegar I could find and did the same treatment.
The next morning, after I brushed and flushed, the bowl looked new.
They were pleased with the unexpected surprise!
When her sister and husband went to work, I poured the same vinegar into their toilet which soaked for 10 hours before they came home.)

    Thank you,

    Robert

I'd take an educated guess - but I'm unqualified.

robert, vinegar is a very mild acid and it's what we use to clean out tankless water heaters.

i would think if it is able to cling to the surface of the toilet, it will dissolve the hard water deposits.

the commercial products might work faster and better with the thicker formula will cling better.

One job I'm qualified for after spending 12 years in the navy is a janitor. Turn off the water to the toilet and plunge as much water as possible out the bowl. Soak paer towels in vineagar or coke and place in the bowl on the sides. Take the towels out next morning and scrub.
        Buy cheap, buy twice.

I'm impatient when it comes to cleaning a toilet. I use muratic acid to clean my toilets. Ten minutes later and the toilet is sparkling clean again.

I would spray the bowl with white vinegar, then stick toilet paper where needed and wet with more spray.
No wasting paper towels and having to remove them. Just flush after using the toilet.
I pour the vinegar into the bowl water which cleans the areas under water, including inside the jet and up into the waste outlet.

White vinegar is natural and CHEAP! We buy it by the gallon.
            No chemical cleaners.
I love a cleaner which we can also eat!

When tenants vacate their apartments, many times I'm faced with awful crud in the toilet bowls. The best thing I found to get them sparkling clean is a lava stone - the ones that are sold for cleaning pool tiles. The porcelain is harder than the lava stone so it won't scratch the finish.
If it ain't broke, I haven't seen it.

Reminds me, Junk, I'd like to install a urinal in our garage.
Already installed a utility tub there which is probably illegal.

And miss out on any opportunity to water the grass?

Why not just pee in the utility tub?
