  • PVC threaded fittings?

Any tips on ushering the fitting are leak free before I glue up the system? It's uselly not posible to retighton the fittings after gluing the system up. I know PVC is junk and I should just use copper or pipe but for temp installs I don't see a problem with it.

Most of the time I use sc80 threaded fittings but I seem to not be getting them tight enough.

    Thanks,

Rectoseal Teflon Paste on female and male fittings, apply liberally.

I hope you are putting mip pvc to fip metal something. Don't go fip pvc!

Overtightening may well cause a leak too. The fitting should just snug nicely, its a feel.

I will put a band clamp around it. I don't normally carry these parts and some places I work are an hour from any parts. One trip is all we get sometimes.

It's for an irrigation well. The old steel pipe is rusted shut and it also turned out to be a low producing well. I would like to get it back together sow Mom can use it until we can get a new well installed.

The PVC will be coming from well head (Galv mip) to pump (Iron fip) then out of pump (Iron fip) to a copper mip connection.

The PVC mip are leaking at the moment no leaks from the PVC fip

Go again with a Sch 80 FIP with a band clamp. Use heavy dope and don't overtighten.

You can also cut in a pvc pressure coup to save some time and fittings.

i would also put a pvc union in so if the threaded fitting leaks you can turn it a little more or take it apart to re do it

Thanks, I wasn't able to find any unions at the time of install but I will find and use them next time.
