im on top of Mt Washington this week ant i was talking to the state parks worker that takes care of the repairs up here and he is having a problem with a flushometer that runs for a long time after some ones flushes . he said he put new parts in side and also changed the shut off valve .
what would it be thats causing it run for a long flush
    thanks charlie

Wrong diaphragm, one that is giving more GPF than needed for the flush. I just did one where the flush was not long enough. Guy put a new diaphragm in cause the old one ran on and on. The new one was a 1.6 GPF the water closet was a 50 year old unit that needed an A-36 diaphragm that gives 4.5 GPF.

The other thing it could be is if he is using the old design diaphragm the pin hole might be getting obstructed just long enough to make the flush run on to long. Sloan has the newer design that is made to not clog and run on.

Yes they do. Here is some pics, First one is the old style the second is the new style. Notice on the new style there is a plastic ring around the diaphragm This replaces the little brass pinhole which allows the water to repressureize the top of the diaphragm to push the piston closed to end the flush.

Here are the part numbers for the new style Dual Filtered Diaphram.

          • A-1038-A 3.5GPF WATER CLOSET
          • A-1041-A 1.6GPF WATER CLOSET
          • A-1042-A 1 GPF URINAL
The old style part numbers are
          • A-36-A 4.5 GPF WATER CLOSET
          • A-37-A 1.5 GPF URINAL
